Giving notice of marriage or civil partnership: what to know

Before a civil ceremony in England or Wales, both of you normally need to give notice at your local register office. The official guidance says notice must be given at least 29 days before the ceremony. It also explains what documents to bring and how fees work.

Read the official guidance first: GOV.UK: Marriages and civil partnerships in England and Wales. Rules differ in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and this site only covers England and Wales.
