Why registrar fees are higher at approved venues

When registrars attend a ceremony at approved premises, such as a hotel, castle or barn, the council sets the fee, and it usually varies by day of the week. Ceredigion’s 2026-27 fees, for example, are £474 Monday to Thursday, £529 Friday and Saturday, and £747 on Sundays and bank holidays (Ceredigion County Council fees 2026-27). This fee is separate from the venue’s own hire charge.

Notice of marriage (each)£46.50 (£63 where an immigration referral applies)
Register office ceremony (statutory room)£62
Certificate on the day£12.50
Minimum statutory total£167.50 (2 × £46.50 + £62 + £12.50, our arithmetic)
